Abstract

Afiniteelement(FE)modelwasdevelopedbasedonhistologicalsectionsofatemporalboneofa4-year-oldchildtosimulatemiddle-earandcochlearfunctioninearswithnormalhearingandotitismedia.Thispediatricmodelofthenormalear,consistingofanearcanal,middleear,andspiralcochlea,wasfirstvalidatedwithpublishedenergyabsorbance(EA)measurementsinyoungchildrenwithnormalears.ThemodelwasusedtosimulateEAinanearwithmiddle-eareffusion,whoseresultswere
